We are 8 miles from Junction 28 of M1.  Follow the brown signs marked Tramway Museum which is within 100 yards of us.

Rail to Whatstandwell Station.  It is a 1mile walk up a steep hill or  take the bus or a taxi.

Please note that some 'sat navs' will direct you to the hamlet of Wakebridge that has the same post code as Cliffside House but is half a mile down the road.  We are easy to find: take the road out of Crich towards Holloway, this goes past the Tramway Village, past the Cliff Inn, then Cliffside House is 100 yards on the right.

Introduction

Cliffside House is located just outside Crich next to the Tramway Village in the countryside. The apartment is a large, bright, first floor room with balcony overlooking the Derwent Valley. It is fully fitted out for self catering . The room is large and spacious, arranged to have; kitchen, dining, lounge and bedroom facilities. A separate room has the shower, basin and wc. Access to the wash-room is narrow, and without handrails making it inappropriate for some with mobility difficulties. There are no pavements and some steep gradients on the access routes to Cliffside House.

Pre-Arrival


  • The easy way to get to us is to follow the brown signs to the Tramway Village, carry on 100yards further towards Holloway and we are the cream house on the right.
  • Rail is a steep uphill walk from Whatstandwell station or by bus/taxi from Alfreton, Matlock or Belper stations.
  • Bus services are regular, approx hourly,from Matlock, Ambergate and Belper, nos. 140, 141, 142, to the Tramway Village, then there is a 200yd downhill walk - no pavement on a de-restricted road or alternative an unsurfaced, unlit track from the Cliff Inn down a private lane to the house.
 

Car Parking and Arrival

  • A flat tarmac parking area is allocated to visitors who are welcome to stop outside the entrance to drop off bags. The parking space is level within 10 yards / metres of the entrance.
  • The front is floodlit with movement sensed lights.
  • The entrance has a 5" threshold to clear. There are no handrails.
  • The width of the door is 28" or 711 mm.
  • We will be pleased to help you with your luggage.
 

Welcome Area

  • There is a doorbell to push that rings in the main house. Guests will be shown straight in, up the stairs to the apartment where there is seating and access to facilities. All floors have either a securely fixed carpet tile or vinyl covering as appropriate to their use. All areas are well lit with ceiling mounted lights using mainly low energy bulbs.
  • There is no loop system however the TV and radio can be played as loud as they will go without causing disturbance. Any requirement for visual or hearing assistance should be discussed with us to see how we can help.
  • There is a guided tour of facilities. An appliance instruction manual is provided. Help is available pushing the bell by the landing window or the front door: They rings in the main house to request assistance.
 

Bedrooms

  • The apartment  is self contained with all facilities in a room that is 19ft by 26ft, other than the wash-room that is separate, off a small short corridor.
  • Facilities are: Kitchen, Dining Table, Sofa-Bed, two-seater settee , King Size Double Bed, appropriate furnishings and lighting.
  • The entrance is 26" / 660mm
  • There is a sofa bed that can be used by a carer.
  • The King Size bed is 27" / 700mm above floor, the sofa-bed 22" / 560mm.
  • A combination of ceiling, wall and table lamps are available. additional lights can be supplied on request.
  • All decoration is cream walls with brown or gold furnishings. The room is very bright during the day having a lot of window space. Windows have blackout blinds fitted to ensure early morning light does not disturb.
  • Some of the furniture can be moved should it be required.
  • The wardrobe is fitted with a high rail, fixed 72" / 1830 from the floor giving room for luggage underneath.
  • All bedding is non allergenic and cotton.
  • The TV has only the 4 channels available in the area until digital switch-over, with a remote control, no instructions, or audio description available.
  • There is no telephone fitted, however the major mobile network providers have good signal strength.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (Ensuite or Shared)

  • PLEASE NOTE. The washing facilities have a level, narrow access of 22" / 560mm.
  • The shower is separate with an 11" / 80mm raised lip to negotiate.
  • The wc is 17" / 420mm from the floor. The sink is large with a pedestal 34" / 865 mm from the floor. taps are of the traditional twist type.
  • There are no handrails or supports
  • Lighting is supplied from: central ceiling, shaver and a shower light.
  • Decor. is: white towels, cream walls, green splash-back tiles, light vinyl, white facilities.

Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

  • From the entrance there are 13 carpeted straight stairs 35" / 900mm wide with one handrail to a small landing with the entrance door that has a code lock on it. The stairway is lit top and bottom with two way switching. A window at the top provides daylight.
  • There is a mains wired smoke alarm linked to the smoke alarm in the main room.

Public Areas - Lounge

  • Public lounge facilities are not provided, the main room provides the lounge facilities.
 

Garden

  • Because of the nature of the site where there are some steep gradients and woodland hazards (tree roots, rabbit and badger holes etc.) care must be taken, however the site is open to visitors to roam.
  • The garden is mainly grass, borders and woodland. A patio area and vegetable garden are under construction.
 

Future Plans

  • A ground floor apartment is being fitted out along the same lines as the first floor and, within the limitations of the building, will incorporate more features to assist those with disabilities.
